To serve and protect

It was quite an eye-opener for us to hear the mayor on the radio October 2nd. He was quite critical of the 287g program and made this comment:

“When we adopt measures like that that are more symbolic than substantive, we do put fear unnecessarily in segments of the community that we serve. On almost every police car in every municipality it says two things on the door; 'To serve and protect.' Well, we can’t serve a segment of the population that’s afraid of us because they question the motives of certain actions that we take. So I think measures like 287g do more harm than good for our law enforcement officials. That’s why our police department recommended against its adoption.”

Well, our first question has to do with fear. Who is afraid of 287g? No one who is in this country LEGALLY needs to be afraid of 287g. As for PROVING that you are here illegally, all green card holders are warned right from the start that they must have their documents on their person at all times. It is a requirement.

So, we don’t understand the fear part of his argument.

Later in the comment he talks about serving a protecting. Does Mayor Schock realize that in allowing the illegal aliens to live here without enforcement of the law he is serving and protecting them? And in doing so he is failing to serve and protect US, the Legal Americans. That’s the whole point.

We are not chopped liver, Mr. Schock. We deserve to be served and protected. We deserve peaceful enjoyment of our city free from loud parties, drunk drivers, people without insurance…we deserve to drive down our streets without having to take turns or pull over to the curb…we deserve to have morning Kindergarten rather than reschedule our lives to accommodate anchor babies…we deserve a hospital on the east side of town where we don’t have to wait three hours in the emergency room…

In short, we are looking for a little service and protection in exchange for our tax dollars.

  1. Now there is a few things I'd love to clarify for you sir. . .

My name is Stephen. I've been in the army for three years now and served a tour of duty in Iraq, likely to be headed back this summer. I'm attending ECC in the hopes of becoming a U46 high school teacher. I've lived my entire life in Elgin and I know many "illegal immagrants". I see some of your valid points but I don't agree with everything you say or your way of going about fixing our country's immigration problem. There is a problem but deporting millions of people out of a country will not fix it.

When you have a problem of this magnitude you need to think rationally about your solutions. Here are a few key facts you need to consider when doing a mass deportation. . . .

I pay about $3,000 in income taxes alone every year. When you have working illegal aliens paying $3,000 a year per person (keep in mind this is just an average, not statistical), it adds up pretty fast. You state there are 8,610 illegal aliens in Elgin alone (your average on your site), multiply that by $3,000 per person and you have $25,830,000 in income taxes paid Elgin alone. I know you insist illegal aliens don't pay taxes but in fact they do. I know many of them in Elgin and went around asking for a check stub to verify that they also pay taxes. Now that figure comes nowhere near the actual figure which includes sales taxes also. The math adds up and whether you or anyone else likes to admit it, mass deportation would crash our tax system and you and I would be paying higher taxes to make up for it.

Now here's the next part your gonna say. . . "Illegal aliens use all the resources we have here". Schools, hospitals, welfare, library, etc. Personally I think the whole welfare systems is out of Wack and needs to be revamped. But schools. . . These children (whether they be illegal or not), deserve an education. I would much rather have a child in school learning rather than running the streets. Do you agree? As for hospitals you insist these people shouldn't be allowed to be cared for! That's outrageous! If you go to any other country you will not be denied healthcare. I repeat, YOU WILL NOT BE DENIED HEALTHCARE! I've been to Mexico and picked up a nasty ear infection. I went to the hospital and when I went to pay my bill was $10! Yes, $10! That is cheaper than my copay at a veteran hospital here in America! Not only this but many many illegal immigrants won't go to the hospital until they are almost dead beacause they are scared of getting deported.

Next point I'm going to bring up is your message to mayor shock about what "we" deserve. Loud parties!? Sir all I can do is laugh at that demand. Maybe its because I have never been to a quiet party. This loud party issue in my opinion seems to be a generic population problem, not an illegal alien one. Drunk drivers!? When you imply that drunk driving is an illegal immigration problem do you keep in mind that a majority of people charged with a DUI are "legal" citizens with a license and insurance? So again. . . A general population prolem. I do however agree with you on the no insurance problem for illegals. But I on the other hand have a different solution than you do. I believe insurance companies should provide insurance to illegals, not to cater to them, but to keep the legal citizen on the other end physicaly and financially safe. Just a personal opinion from past experience. It's better to be in an accident with someone who has insurance rather than no insurance, Who ever they may be. Do you agree? Now your kindergarten issue I have no idea how to respond. As long as I can remember there have always been two classes a day. I myself was actually an afternoon kid. Now when you go to a hospital and there is a full emergency room how do you know they are all illegal? I mean there's only two ways of really coming to that conclusion. You either judged them all by looking at them (which is a horrible thing to do), or you went around the ER asking everyone thief legal status? Which is it? I on the other did just that yesterday. Did a poll and found out there was 1, yes 1, illegal alien in that ER with a broken leg. That is definately a good reason to go to the hospital. (Just for the record this poll was conducted at Sherman hospital)

Now to take a step back. . . I do agree with you on some things. I'd hate for you to Believe I am totally against you and you cause. I definately agree that we need to tighten out borders. BOTH Mexico and Canada. (17 out of the 19 Sept. 11 hijackers entered from Canada. If your so bent on security why isn't Canada one of your focuses? I also agree that we have a massive immigration problem, but rather than deport millions of people I think we need a massive immigration overhaul. Weed out the bad and keep the good as I would put it. Drug dealers, gang leaders, felony convictions, benefit abusers, are just some examples of illegals I would file for deportation immediately. Hard workers, illegal immigrants that do good for the community, people who just want to make an American dream life for thief families deserve a path to citizenship without deportation in my opinion. Sure there is a path and it is very broken sir. It needs to be fixed the right way.

Now I think I'll tell you a little about myself and who I am. As I've states above I am a soldier serving in the IL army national guard. Three years now, one of them in Iraq. I first joined the army because I wanted the adventure and the college money. I graduated Elgin high school as an honor roll student. I've known white people, black people, brown people. . People of all colors and races. I've met many people who are legal and many who are illegal. It saddens me that many of my illegal friends who were smart enough for college couldn't go here in the United States. I am an American with an Italian and Mexian backround. My dad came to the United States Illegally. Without him I would not be here today. My fiance also happens to be an illegal alien who was brought to the United States as a baby. I can only hope with the immigration hype she doesn't get deported while I serve my second tour in Iraq. So keep that in mind when you think of illegal aliens. I am only 20 years old so my life doesn't have that many stories. but withu 20 years of experience comes 20 years of wisdom and rationality. I hope you do not sete this post so that all your readers can read and I especially hope this may have changed a few of your views if any. Thank you for taking your time to read my message to you. Merry Christmas and happy holidays..

    Sincerely, Spc Foster

  4. The whole point is illegal is illegal not LEGAL! Wherever the alien came from, they snuck in front of the line. We have laws and illegal's laugh at them. A majority of the citizen's agree. There are more under the table wage payments then tax payers. I personaly would prefer the illegal alien's be deported and I am willing to pay a extra tax to have them deported there should be absolutely no reward for law breakers. If the magnet is gone and serious penalties to employers who want cheap labor the illegal's will leave on there own and if they want to come here for the American dream then do it the legal way, period!

  5. Spc Foster - First of all, thank you for serving your country.
Now, to your point. There are an estimated five million illegals working for cash "off the books" and that costs the rest of us $35 Billion a year.
Secondly, the city of Elgin gets the short end of the deal when it comes to taxes. The feds get their money (which explains why Washington is pro-illegal) while the services all come out of the local economy. Elgin gets tax revenue from property taxes. When you put 3-4 families in one house, the city loses!
As for deportation, how else are we going to send the message to illegals to STAY HOME?
Perhaps you and your fiancee ought to think of settling in Mexico where hospital visits are only $10. And take Michael Moore with you.

  6. Stephen, I thank you too for serving. To educate a student in Elgin schools cost per student $8,000. Elgin schoolsjust in kindergarten to 6th grade there are 5,300 Hispanic students 2,100 whit'e cost Hispanic enrollemt cost $46 million alone in grades K-6. In the last 9 years U-46 has spent over $1 billion educating Hispanic in the last 17 years our Hispanic populationis over 45,000

Plus entitlements you need to do some work getting some numbers. This countries illegal problems cost billions

  7. I see your points, I really do. But You insist that ALL illegal immigrants are BAD immigrants. Yes they are here illegally but only because they want to find a better place for their families to live. I'm not saying it was the right thing to do at all. I'm just saying that there is a reason behind it.

Okay.. I agree that we need to take away the magnet of attracting thousands of illegal americans to the United states by taking away those lower paying jobs. I would not agree that totally denying healthcare because that is morally wrong but I would identify the abusers and have them deported. (IE. going to the ER room more several times). The schooling problem would be fixed by making an illegal family pay for their children to attend US schools. That's another magnet that would be taken away. There is so many ways to go about this without trashing our economy, ruining millions of people's lives, and driving prices on everything sky high. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out, just common sense, and I'm sorry to say that alot of "anti-illegal-alien" supporters have lost. There is no good way to just deport millions of people from our economy without throwing us into a massive depression. There are ways to fix our problem though but it requires everyone to think rationally. These are good ways to start to send the message to illegals to go back to their country of origin without ruining our economy, ruining millions of people's lives, and looking like a third world country to the rest of the world (which bush has pretty much done to us already).

As to this message "As for deportation, how else are we going to send the message to illegals to STAY HOME?".... I feel bad to the millions of innocent kids caught up in this mess who have been brought to this country as a child (not at their own will) and have called America home. Kids that have been educated here and know perfect english, who would make a fine addition to our society. And to this direct message "Perhaps you and your fiancee ought to think of settling in Mexico where hospital visits are only $10." All I can say is that I feel shame on protecting a country filled with people like you sir.

To "Concerned", Your message is very educated and it is right. Making illegal aliens pay for their children to attend schools here would fix this problem and be one less of a magnet to them to come here. Thank you for your input.

  8. I also see it very disturbing that I, a soldier of the United States Army, should not be able to live happily (in the U.S.) with a women from another country. Why is it in your eyes I would have to marry a women from this country if I want to live a happy free life, which I fight for, and having the threat everyday that my fiance could be deported? I don't honestly see your logic behind it and if you could provide a more in depth answer to it please, by all means, do.

  9. Did you swear an oath, soldier? Which laws do we enforce and which do we ignore?

    ReplyDelete
  10. It's not about which laws we choose to enforce and which laws we choose to enforce. It's about what's right and what's wrong. If you are so keen on following every law then you don't support the freedom of the citizens of the United States of America because the United States was formed breaking British law. So was breaking laws for our freedom not okay in your book then?

  11. correction... "It's not about which laws we choose to enforce and which laws we choose *not* to enforce..."

    ReplyDelete
  12. And I suppose YOU get to choose which ones should be enforced, based on your love interest? Is that the way it works in the military? Each soldier decides for himself? That's called chaos.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am not choosing which laws we enforce based on my love interest. I am choosing which laws to enforce by using common sense. Mass deportation will not, and I repeat WILL NOT fix this problem. Instead you will throw our economy and the economy of the rest of the world into a tail spin. You think this will not affect us but you are dead wrong. When you pick up a population, greater than the size of New York City, and deport them to another country how do you expect our country to run? What do you expect to happen to 12 million people in Mexico and other various countries? Riots will break out, Governments will crumble because they are in adequate to Provide and take care of these people. The riots will move, back to our borders. The mass of our army is stationed overseas in a war we shouldn't be in. Who is going to protect us? Corporations overseas will be destroyed by the riots therefore destroying all the cheap things we have in America (and don't tell me this wont affect you unless you ONLY buy American made products). Companies here will see a shortage of cheap labor and move overseas therefore outsourcing more jobs to other countries at a time when we need to keep them here in America. (This will affect your job as well because almost every job is connected to employing illegal aliens) Many people here will be out of jobs losing their incomes, houses, cars, credit companies will go bankrupt on your inability to pay your bills. House foreclosures will climb exponentially for reasons more than not reading the simple lines of an adjustable loan rate. Either taxes or the national debt will rise to fund programs to fix this epidemic we'll have. It only takes common sense to see this all happening in the near future if we decide to mass deport millions of people.

Btw... if you currently collect social security, say good bye to that benefit if we decide to mass deport every illegal immigrants as the IRS has reported that over 45 billion dollars are deposited into the social security fund by illegal immigrants and are unclaimed when tax refund season comes around. I hope you can survive without your Social Security check if you decide to support a mass deportation.

This is why I support the legalization of the illegal immigrants who deserve legal status and ONLY them. As you can see on my new website (BetterSolution.us), I do support deporting the illegal immigrants who do not deserve to be a part of our great country. This is in no way ONLY changing the law to accommodate my love interest.

    - An Immigrant who REFUSES to learn english,

    - An Immigrant who abuses the services and benefits given by the citizens of the United States of America.

    - An Immigrant who doesn't pay taxes

    - Selling any form of drugs or drug paraphernalia

WE DO NOT SUPPORT YOUR LEGALIZATION.

    - Works hard for to support your family

    - Has a clean criminal record (We don't need anymore criminals in our prison system)

    - Does not abuse the tax paid services of the United States of America

    - Who is fluent in, or has the will to be fluent in, English (Being the language of our great nation, English is a must!)

    - Who pays your taxes

    WE DO SUPPORT YOUR LEGALIZATION

  16. I honestly think that if the AFLA would work together with other people (out of their mass deportation circle) we could fix the problem in Elgin over illegal immigration. I am willing to devote any time to help if they are interested and together we can get more people to support Immigration reform for the city of Elgin. Only a suggestion, I dont expect it to go very far with the AFLA but I did put it out there.

    -Spc Foster

  17. Right off the bat 71% of Mexican immigrants need to leave because they don't speak English. Read the Pew Language study just released. We may not be far apart here, Beautiful Dreamer.
Now, let's think past next week and see how you are going to stop the next wave coming in without some sort of deportation program. How do we deter a future invasion?

    ReplyDelete
  18. We stop future waves by enforcing our borders. Like I said before I am a supporter of enforcing our borders, stiffing penalties on employers and pulling the magnets that attract so many illegal immigrants. I just do not support a mass deportation like the AFLA does. You should really read up on my comments.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Also... "because they don't speak English" does not mean they do not have the will to speak English. If you check English speaking classes offered by ECC and Judson you will see that they are booked up showing that immigrants are trying to learn spanish.

Now if anyone flat out DENIES, and REFUSES to speak English then I understand your point and I have already stated that I do not support legalization for those who REFUSE to speak English.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't know that AFLA has a position on deportation. From what I can tell they are talking about enforcement for those who are booked in the jail, not house-to-house searches and round-ups.
English-only might make it tough doing business with the city but you are in favor of learning English, right? Maybe you have an issue with checking Social Security numbers. I don't get your objection to AFLA. Where does AFLA talk about mass deportation?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Lets check their website really quick.....

    - "We must use every legal means to start evicting these trespassers!"

The AFLA is also against any form of legalization for the illegal immigrants that aren't abusing the benefits we get in this country. Kids who are illegal who exceeded the expectations put on them in school, people (keep in mind that illegals are people too) that work hard just to support their family and to live the American dream. The ones who aren't here to commit crime, sell drugs, take advantage of benefits. It's these illegal immigrants that I am standing up for that deserve a way to legalization without destroying their lives. AFLA does not support any form of legalization for these sort of people and there fore the AFLA supports mass deportation. I am only trying to convince the great people of Elgin that not ALL illegal immigrants are the way that the AFLA portrays them and they deserve to be considered for legalization rather than deportation.

  22. Spec Foster, You make me laugh when you talk about 20 years of wisdom give me a break I am surprised that you think 20 years gives wisdom. How do you calculate any wisdom you have gained from birth to 20 years. You have just began to understand that there are laws and rules where ever you so and this is a great opportunity for you to be attentative and follow some one's instructions as you are doing in the military. After you have served 30 years in the military then talk about having wisdom. As far as the Illegal Alien's are concerned The first thing they did was to become criminals by sneaking into the USA illegally. I have no sympathy for them because they came here to have their babies setting the mold for future benefits. There is nothing good that they bring to the U.S. All they bring is Chaos, diseases and misery to the American citizens. You pro illegal supporters don't deserve to have U.S citizenship because for sure no one can serve two Gods either you are an American, willing to respect the laws and fight for the rights of American citizens you can't be loyal to both Mexico or any other country and loyal to the U.S. Illegals have no rights to anything in this country just as Americans don't have rights to any services in other countries but you are right about medical care, in most foreign countries. Health care is free but is is woefully inadequate you will die waiting for care.
You believe that illegals should receive benefits paid by tax payers without the consent of the tax payers I do not agree with you. I believe that they should pay for everything they get from the work they allegedly are doing that American workers won't do. They should pay for every child they send to school with no freebies.
Stop kidding yourself there is no way Illegals can come close to contributing what they take from every community they invade and destroy. I wish all of you Anti deportation talking heads would show the same amount of interest in fighting Mexico and any other country who dump their garbage in the U.S. Start a crusade to help them clean up their own country and keep their people home and happy. I don't hear any pro illegal immigration activist planning marches, making demands, marching in the streets, or churches in Mexico complaining about loosing money from the coffers because too many are fleenig, nor do I hear any one criticizing the Mexican government for neglecting it's people. Once I escaped the country that didn't care for me I certainly would not proudly fly that flag in the place that welcomed me unconditionally or so it seems. a country that would rather see me die in the desert than provide basic needs is not a country to show pride for. Perhaps that would be a a nobel cause for you to wrap your arms around start by trying to understand why the country of Mexico in particular is so screwed up. After you figure that out then maybe you can lead the motorcade returning the 12-20 million illegals HOME. Most Americans do not want Illegals destroying our commuties We want them to GO HOME and stay there until they get permission through the proper channels to come here. I support treating Illegals just like the Mexican constitution treats illegals who invade their country. I am sure you are wondering why I speak so much about Mexicans. Well they are the most invasive, the loudest, they suck all the life out of every thing they can. including every citizen's identy that they steal. and want every thing for free education, housing, free pass on criminal behavior. No other ethnic group has this badge of dishonor. Think this thing through my friend support what is right and help stop the magnet. Deport deport deport lock the door and throw away the key!

"I do agree with you on some things. I'd hate for you to Believe I am totally against you and your cause"

NOW.. if you still something to say that has merit behind it... please do! Quit wasting my time and and take some of your time to READ before you discredit me.

  24. BTW...

Not to get off topic but you are very naive to the media. You think you will be waiting forever in line to get health care treatment.

I can't blame you for this belief you have as many corporations who control the media want you to think that, this way they can control the health care system and continue to pull in profits double the size of oil profits.

Take some time and do some of your own private research before judging health care systems in other countries. It is really sad that with all your wisdom you claim to have that you base your beliefs solely on the media and what they tell you on the news.
