It's a Federal Matter

It’s always a good idea to begin with the things we agree on. We agree with the city that Washington has allowed this problem to get out of hand. We agree that the feds don’t have the resources to handle the problem.

Lest we begin planning a pity party for Immigration, be it known that some members of congress have been sounding the alarm for years. For example, did you know that legislation was introduced five years ago to convert closed military bases into detention facilities? And that congress ignored the request?

So don’t feel bad when Bush and congress cry about not having enough beds for the deportation program.

And they just removed the funding for more border fence next year so that project won’t happen.

Now, our local contact with ICE is a man by the name of Marty Price. I’m sure he’s a delightful fellow. I’m also sure he’s trying hard to give Elgin some attention along with all the other local agencies he deals with. There are just not enough resources to go around.

But when all is said and done, Elgin needs to take a stand. We can’t just go along with the feds and what they are willing to give us. That isn’t enough.

We agree this is a problem caused by the federal government and AFLA's approach makes demands on them to fix it.

How so? As an employer Elgin needs to push the envelope and go for the IMAGE program. Our pressure will help resolve the problem between Immigration and Social Security.

Our 100% screening request shines the spotlight on the criminal aliens in town. We now have a number every month documenting who is illegal and how many. It also creates a paper trail back to Immigration if someone is released to commit more crime.

The 287g program also points back to the federal government. The message is that we are willing to help them do the job of finding and processing the illegals in our community. Still, the feds are the ones who take care of hauling them away.

The CAP Officer request is the pinnacle of federal involvement. They have someone in our jail; they do the screening; they handle the paperwork. In short, the feds are enforcing immigration laws, just like they are supposed to.

Checking city contracts? Same thing. It opens the door for workplace raids and investigations by the IRS.

Indeed these are federal matters. AFLA wants city government to get more involved and make more demands that Washington clean up their mess.

Of course, if our city leaders don’t see illegal aliens as a problem we have a long way to go. If they think the presence of the "undocumented" in our community enhances our economy and provides diversity…well then we are miles apart on the issue.

  1. It's always good to begin with the truth! is an illegal alien considered a resident of this community or are they criminals who have broken the law just by being here. Will 105,000 residents be given the right to vote! apparently so, because Kane county which includes Elgin has been ordered to employ interpreters to assist non-English speaking individuals Why? and why should tax payers have to pay for this unnecessary service.

I am sick and tired of hearing that Washington has allowed this problem to get out of hand. While I agree, I ask the question, On what authority did the city of Elgin deport a mere 800 illegals over a period of the last decade. (How admirable.) I ask the mayor to dust off the same tools used previously to deport the 800 illegals he claims to have been deported and show the citizens how it was done.
There is nothing that would please me more than to see the real men of this community come forth and take a stand like Dave and Doug and the people of AFLA. It is shameful that we have little boys dressed in mens clothing carrying the lanters for us. We are sure to meet peril if they do not realize that they must stand up straight to make the lanterns shine bright enough for all to see that the direction of our travel is leading to disaster.
There is no time to play games.
With the funds from the boat Elgin can affort a lot of things and to provide for the safety of the citizens should be their top priority. The monies given as incentives to developers for silly non-productive expensive empty residential sites, installing lightening deflectors at the gold courses building a new Rec. Center contemplating a new concert hall and other things only to be used by slect groups of people. This money could have been used for the welfare of the city to fight the out of control problem with illegals. Our goal is to enhance the city with funds from the boat not destroy it.
No one is attracted to Elgin to take up residence except illegals because it has become too congested and is known as a haven for them. While not officially declared as such, Elgin is a sanctuary city for all practical purposes.
The leaders of this city are so hateful It took the city many years to agree to give the homeless people of this community a shelter but they stand grinning with arms stretched wide open welcoming a group of people of whom they know nothing about and plant them in our neighborhoods as though they are royalty. with out a wink.

If following the federal government's lead is the law of the land then why is it necessary to swear elected officers into office claiming to enforce the laws, But if the federal government has ALL of the authority
to make decisions then we do not need local officials. Of course this is the line citizens are given when local officials do not want to do their sworn duty.
I wonder did the federal government tell Elgin city officials to allow illegals to gain employment in city jobs, take over our temp. agencies that only hire hispanics? I don't think so. Once again our officials are playing the dummie game "I don know" we have ordinances to follow for this sort of thing "we can't know every thing our contractors and every agency do. So don't hold us accountable for the decisions others make to hire illegals. Well it is the job of the mayor and council to get in the faces of the contractors, the federal government and any one else who breaks the laws that are destructive to the citizens and this city.
