Another illegal alien picked up for ID theft in Elgin. A high bail was set so he's still in jail. (Thanks, judge.)
Law enforcement/courts need to work out the details about these cases. This suspect was using the ID of a criminal but the news story is unclear about the reason for the traffic stop or the financial losses involved.
And we'd sure like to hear from the Feds on their commitment to take custody and deport whenever local police have an illegal in custody.
Beyond that, we ought to be asking Congress and the President what they are doing to add to the resources of Immigration.
Here's the story from the Daily Herald 3/13/08:
An Elgin man using a stolen Social Security number was accused Wednesday of identity theft -- because the man whose name he was using was wanted in another state -- police said.
Ruben David Olmos, 24, of 215 N. Porter St., Elgin, was charged with two counts of possession of fictitious identification cards, identity theft, obstruction of justice, forgery, driving without a valid license and no front registration plate, police said.
A black Honda Prelude was stopped at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Villa and DuPage and the driver offered ID in the name of Danny Lugo, police said.
Lugo was wanted in New York on an outstanding warrant, police said.
Fingerprints taken in Elgin showed the man in custody was really Ruben David Olmos, police said.
Olmos paid $1,500 for copies of Lugo's birth certificate and Social Security card and used the ID to get an Illinois driver's license, police said.
Olmos also used the ID to secure accounts at Chase Bank, Blockbuster Video, Gail Borden Library and Express men's clothing store, police said.
Olmos also was employed under Lugo's name at a bar in in Arlington Heights, police said.
Olmos has been in the country for six years, police said.
Olmos was unable to post a $17,500 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail.
His next court date is on March 26 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

Many of our street cops are decent,hardworking people. The core criminal elements of EPD are the only people we are working to indict and convict and IMPRISON. Call these corrupt officials and tell them you are working hard to expose the criminal activities.
