Responding to the Brethren

There was an editorial in the Daily Herald from an agency owned by the Church of the Brethren. The executive director expressed opposition to AFLA’s proposals with this explanation: “The proposed ordinances express racism and prejudice against non-English speakers, people of other nationalities who are living in our community, and those of backgrounds other than European-American. We believe the ordinances, in practice, would target people of color. We are concerned especially for the effects on families and children.

“The proposed ordinances have potential to create grievous situations for children and their parents, as enforcement would divide families, creating virtual orphans of children who are U.S. citizens as undocumented parents are jailed or deported.

“This would create an unconscionable burden on social service agencies on whom the children would then depend for their care. Financial consequences for Elgin may be equally devastating.

“The proposed ordinances would divert city services and resources, especially those of the police department, away from needs in the community and into harsh expressions of enforcement inappropriate for the population of Elgin.”

She went on to praise Elgin with, “We feel the genuine nature of Elgin as a lively multicultural and open community would be destroyed. We value Elgin's cultural diversity and the many exciting opportunities it offers for our agency and staff.”

Dan Kairis of South Elgin wrote back to the paper with this response:
“Reid's letter defining the Association of Brethren Caregivers' position on immigration is as inaccurate as all the other arguments regarding illegals. Throughout her letter, she continually refers to immigrants. She does not refer to those to whom the ordinances pertain, and those are the illegal aliens who have come to the United States illegally.

“She uses the same false argument that the ordinances are racially motivated. I believe she is showing her prejudice. This city does not provide documentation in Polish, German, French, Italian or any language other than Spanish, which nullifies her argument of the English-only ordinance being pro-European-American.

“She says the ordinances would divert city services and resources away from the needs of the community. She fails to mention the financial costs of the illegals, who take vital services from the legal seniors, schoolchildren, veterans, etc., of the city.”

Thanks Dan, for your understanding of the issues and for speaking up.

  1. When the Church of the Brethern decides to open up their corporate office and it's massive plot of land alongside the I-90 & Rt. 25 tollway to creat a sanctuary city for illegals, then I will take them and any other church group seriously. Perhaps someone should give an intoxicated illegal alien a car and let him lose on their employee parking lot on Dundee Ave. and find out first hand what Elgin's number one problem is.

Drivers License, Senor? "No sabe." Proof of insurance, Senor? "No sabe."

That's of course if the driver can be found.

  2. It is really sad that many self proclaimed religious people can't seperate truth from fact.
I wonder if any of these self proclaimed christians know or even care that in the end "every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess". Each of us will be held accountable for the things that we did here on earth. lying, cheating, and using the lords name in vane is a sin.
For all of the pro-illegal alien supporters, if the truth be told the presence of illegal aliens is just another golden opportunity for you to benefit usually in a monetary way by taking advantage of them.
The Largest promoters of illegal aliens is the relegious community. The only reason the religious community is screaming loudly in support of the illegals is simple. They want their money and have them work for free while hiding behind that smoke screen of love and concern for all of mankind. Yet that same spirit of love and caring can't be found when it is time to support the truth and denounce the law breakers.
If the positions taken by the writer is representing the view of the Church of the Brotheren I would like to know why she nor the organization has never spoken out in behalf of all of the other illegal ethnic groups who could benefit from the catering services being offered to the Hispanic population. It sounds like selective religious practices and perhaps a bad case of judas teachings to me.
It is frightening that the writer finds the interpretation of the proposed ordinances to "express racism and prejudice against non-english speakers and people of other nationalities of those living in our community with a back ground other than European- American" what does that leave Hispanics! If she is referring to Illegals she should say so. Her belief that the ordinances in practice would target people of color. Give me a break some Hispanics use every buzz word and phrase to try and make a point that is not germaine to them. "people of color" historically is in reference to "Black people".
The writer goes on to talk about the impact of enforcement on the children of illegals. Those situations are created by illegal parents that impact their children is simple, as stewards of your children you are responsible to keep your children in your care in an environment where they are legal and safe. It is time for the adults to stop hiding behind the children to justify breaking the laws of this land to stay here. Enforcement does not divide families, criminals divide families. Parents should take responsibility and take your anchor babies to where ever you came from and do the right thing and raise them. Illegals adults are the ones dividing their families. The law is the law illegal is illegal. Every adult who leaves children in this country upon deportation should be charged with child abuse and imprisoned.
Just like in the USA parents are held responsible for the care and welfare of therir children. law breakers should not be treated differently.
The writer talks about the financial burdens imposed on social services, the police and other social services agencies that would have the responsibility of providing for these children who would become orphans as a result of strict enforcment.
As we speak most if not all of the household's of illegal aliens are receiving 100% social service support so if in fact the children were left here and the parents deported it would still be a tremendous cost savings to the tax payers.
The right thing to do is to send the children with their illegal parents. In reality if a mother is illegal and produces a child the child is a product of the mother thus illegal as well. This pity pot of concerns for the welfare of the children is just another ploy to circomvent the system. The illegal adults want to leave their children behind so when the child reaches a legal age to become a sponsor they can sponsor them to return to the U.S.
In regards to diversity Elgin is quickly becoming a two way cultural divide between White and Hispanic.

As far as stretching city services and resources, destroying communities I don't know where the writer lives but from where I stand Elgin's communities, are for the most part in shambles due to over crowding, excessive vehicles, constant calls to police fire, paramedics, overcrowded Schools, vehicle accidents by the minute many with injuries, every store in town clogged with hundreds of unruly children and rude parents who don't speak English. What more do we need to happend before we realize that Elgin is quickly being destroyed by Non-English speaking intruders.
Does the Church of the Brotheren support the opinions of this person who used your well known name recognition to add weight to her opinions? Please make comments so that the community knows just where you stand.
